"We hired Gerard Berardi to do our taxes for the past two years. First time we met and before we hired him, we talked about our needs and pricing. After he did our tax return, the price went up from the estimated 500$ to 650$, we said ok to that. Second year we met and I specifically asked him about any pricing changes, he told us that he’d give us a good price. After his work was done he charged us 1365$ claiming that his rate was 225$ per hour... this was new and we’d never heard about an hourly rate before (having always quoted us a flat rate). I acknowledge that it may have run a bit more because my husband sold some of his stock, but I would have liked to know in advance that the number would go that high. I asked him to resolve this issue, but he became very angry, so we won’t be hiring him again as it is never clear how much he will charge."
